Each September local library systems around the country celebrate National Library Card Sign-Up Month as the new school year begins. Libraries offer valuable resources to families from entertainment to education through various free programs, events, and activities.
The Lafourche Parish Public Library will be holding several events this September to help young children foster a love for reading. As a true book nerd and avid reader, I wanted to make sure local families are aware of the upcoming events and other programs available this month. September is the perfect time to get a library card for your child, yourself, or visit one of their branches for a new read this fall.

There are other programs under the Books Before Challenges as well open for older children including, 500 Books Before Middle School, for children in K through 5th grade, and 100 Books Before Graduation, for children in 6th through 12th grade.
Each of these programs are geared to teach kids how important it is to engage in regular reading while continuing to help them develop their reading and comprehension skills throughout their schooling.
Parents can register their child at any time throughout the year at all branches of the Lafourche Parish Public Library. But with these events scheduled this month, it's the perfect time to learn more about the programs and get the whole family involved in a good read this fall. For questions or more information on one of these programs, connect with the Lafourche Parish Public Library System at their Headquarters in Thibodaux or any one of their branches around Lafourche Parish.
